Ha Long, in
northeast Vietnam, is known for its emerald waters and thousands of towering
limestone islands topped by rainforests. Junk boat tours and sea kayak
expeditions take visitors past islands named for their shapes, including Stone
Dog and Teapot islets. The region is popular for scuba diving, rock climbing
and hiking. The bay consists of a dense cluster of some 1,600
limestone monolithic islands each topped with thick jungle vegetation,
rising spectacularly from the ocean. Several of the islands are hollow, with
enormous caves. Some of the famous places are Tuan Chau, BaiTu Long Bay which
is famous for harbor and kayaking, the most attractive cave with limestone
formations is situated at Dau Go Cave, and one of the most amazing tourist
place I have seen is ThienCung Cave with is a vast cave with dramatic rock
formations and is lovely.
I booked a 2 day 1 night Ha Long bay day
tour and I must say it's one of the best decisions I've made this trip. The
first day was exploring, swimming sea kayaking and visiting a local pearl farm,
the second day we were the only 6 people that stayed the extra day and this was
amazing. We went off on a day tour with our own guide and visited a private
cave. The guide luckily spoke very good English and had a great sense of humor.
After the cave we made our way back to the boat and continued sailing through
this wonderful location to our next stop where we were served an awesome lunch,
a complete smorgasbord cooked in front of us. After lunch we had our own time
to go kayaking again and explore private beaches. Basically
we stuck in the traffic for more than 3 to 4 hours to and forth Ha Long bay.
The shuttle bus was full and very timid seat area; really feel uncomfortable
sitting with long hour journey. Seeing the Ha Long bay at the cruise was
amazing, taking lots of beautiful pictures, food was just awesome. At the
floating village, the guide didn't even ask us whether our packages include
kayak or not, he just direct us to the sampan, we paid extra for kayak not
sampan. Luckily the boat rower was kind and took many pictures for us, well at
least we could relax and enjoyed the view. The guide was good enough to
complete our tour, especially in the Tien long cave, he kept asking everyone to
walk carefully. We reached home around 9pm plus... best to go for 2days 1night
instead, not so rush. During the tour we have also faced so many problems after
being stuck into traffic for so many hours we got exhausted and we used to play
games among ourselves. At some places the food was good but not so wow. And the
guide was also in a hurry at some places as we not able to see the place
properly. And at the limestone cave it was very dangerous, if by mistake anyone
get slipped then he or she will definitely loss his/her life. But if we don’t face
any danger situation in a trip then there will be no fun or adventure.
I could go on and on about how fantastic
this halong day trip was but you
really need to find out for yourself. For what we paid and what we got is just
brilliant and I can't rate it enough.
